Success rate is crucial for film industry.  Higher it grows the more industry flourishes. On other hand reduction in the film would cast the doubt on the future of the industry. Mollywood is facing all these pragmatic questions in 2016 at the end of year analysis. The film numbers has come down sharply to 118 from 141 of 2015. But the success rate is increased to nearly 20% from 14% but it was largely due to decrease in the number of 2016. Many big budget films collapsed but number small budget films danced in joy. The charm of channel rights not any more for Malayalam films one of the biggest reason for the reduction in the number of films. There is a significant change in the business environment for the Mollywood . The overseas is becoming good market for the films but how far the producers are benefitting is another factor. But hereafter they can bargain bit hard to get their rates increased. Compared previous years the Mollywood has shined better.   Here are the Top 5 movies of 2016

1 Pulimurugan

The year belong to Pulimurugan for many ‘’first’’ in the Mollywood industry. This Mohanlal – Vyshak magic conquered the Malayalees across the globe. The earth shattering weeks with multiple  and repeated number of were order of the day till at least for a month. Demonetisation and Strike snatched away large chunk of revenues. In the B and C centers the film is having superb run and it is adding enough collections to the grand total in Kerala which is now 84 Crore in 85 days. This record set to remain for some time till another big magic transpires in the Mollywood.



2. Oppam

The second blockbuster of Super Star Mohanlal which had Mohanlal himself as villain in the box office in the form Murugan in a month time. Opened to excellent holiday crowd with good WOM and maintained steadily till the release of Puli Murugan . The film has collected 45 Cr in its entire run in Kerala from all class theaters. Stands second defeating Drishyamin the highest grosser list of Malayalam films.  It also provided big come back for Priyadarshan.


3. Action Hero Biju

From a mixed feedback of WOM in the opening weekend and struggling at box office initially this Nivin Pauly film emerged as the winner through spectacular come back in second week. Thereafter it had not to look back at the box office and maintained good collection. Abrid Shine proved his skills and categorically reaffirmed that he is here to stay with more variety films. The film has collected 25.20 Crore in Kerala


4. Maheshinte Prathikaaram

One of the biggest surprise of 2016. Low budget film with debutant director Dileesh Pothan and Fahad Fazil in the back drop of series of flops with little expectation. But the good WOM showed its presence from the evening shows itself. Collected around 23.75 Crore from Kerala



5. Jacobinte Swargarajyam

The luckiest combo of the present Malayalam cinema Nivin Pauly and Vineeth Sreenivasan showed again that their stars are still bright. During Vishu season and summer vacation the families lined up by making it huge success. Collects around 22.50 Cr in Kerala


20 Crore plus is new attraction in the box office and while Pulimurugan showed us Malayalam film can even cross 75 Cr in Kerala. There are many successful films in 2016. Pavada, Kali, King Liar, Kammatipadam, Happy Wedding, Anuragakarrikkin vellam, Kasaba, Pretham, Aan Meri Kalipillaanu, Welcome To Central Jail, Oozham, Oru Muthasi Gadha , Thoppil Joppan,Aanadam, Kattapanayille RithwikRoshan, Good to have bigger list. Rithwik Roshan still running may end its final business at 20 Cr + . Let us hope present crisis in the Mollywood settles amicably and remaining Friday’s are full of cinemas.
