Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 33 - Pullipuli Leads, Memories Picks up, NPCB steady, Mathukutty washed out
RANK # 1 - Pullipulikalum Aatinkuttiyum
PPAK proves to be the boxoffice leader at Ramzan 2013 Mollywood season, with steady collections at rural small centers. The response at the metros has been below average due to the mixed word of mouth, but the late releases meant that PPAK would play atleast 25% more shows than the other movies over the weekend, and would end up the leader by a good margin.
Gross : 5.12 Crores (10 days)
Verdict : HIT
RANK # 2 - Memories
Memories ruled the metros and multiplexes over the weekend, amassing a gross figure almost equal to that of PPAK inspite of a much lower release count. Memories was easily the preferred choice for families despite being a thriller, and looks at a lifetime gross in the range of 7 - 7.25 Crores, higher than Mumbai Police and Grandmaster.
Gross : 4.16 Crores (10 days)
Verdict : HIT
RANK # 3 - Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi
NPCB had a decent second weekend, but well below the expectations considering the initial which it managed in the first 3 days. The film is slowly settling down to an above average category, and may face removals from rural single screens once the youth audience dry up. The metros and multiplexes are providing respite for this road movie which has already recovered its cost.
Gross : 3.91 Crores
Verdict : Above Average
RANK # 4 - Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukkutty
KKOM proves to be a wash out losing out much of the screen space to its competitors by the end of first week itself. Even the independence day holiday, or the weekend could not improve the situation and KKOM is looking at a lifetime gross around 3.25 Crores at the maximum.
Gross : 2.80 Crores
Verdict : Flop
Thalaivaa dropped around 50% in the second weekend after a tremendous first week of 5.35 Gross. The final BO figure from Kerala is expected to be around 8 - 8.5 Crores, the same range as Singam II. Chennai Express proves to be the best bollywood performer in Kerala for 2013 overcoming Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, with a 10 day gross expected in the range of 3.5 Crores approx.
With Kalimannu releasing in 80 theaters on 22 Aug, KKOM and Chennai Express are expected to be washed out. Thalaivaa and NPCB may lose steam, with Memories expected to hold up the best amongst the lot.
