Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 32 - Mollywood Ramzan Boxoffice Battle

Rank 1 – Pullipulikalum Aatinkuttiyum

With an opening weekend gross of 2.10 Crores, Pullipulikalum Aatinkuttiyum made a strong start at the boxoffice, with a considerable lead. The trend across the weekend was good, but there were some concerning signs at the rural centers on Monday. A more clear picture shall be available on the second Friday as to where the collections are going towards.

Gross : 2.10 Crores (3 days)
Verdict : Solid Opening

Rank 2 – Neelakasham Pachakkadal Chuvanna Bhoomi

Though it seems to have lost out on a good figure due to the release count, NCPB has scored well with the limited release, due to the outstanding response. It has held up well at the metros on Monday, and needs to be seen how far it can match with Pullipulikalum Aatinkuttiyum in rural centers.

Gross : 1.57 Crores (3 days)
Verdict : Good Opening

Rank 3 – Kadal Kadannu Oru Mathukutty

KKOM disappointed at the boxoffice over the weekend after an excellent solo start on Thursday. The weekday status has been poor in general which is a worrying sign going forward, coupled with reduced number of shows in major centers. With the other films catching up on good word of mouth, Mathukutty is expected to struggle to keep pace.

Gross : 2.05 Crores (4 days)
Verdict : Above Average Opening - Losing Steam.

Rank 4 - Memories

Being the most appreciated movie amongst the Ramzan releases, Memories has picked up remarkably well after a slow start. Monday reported more than a dozen housefull shows across the state in the evening, which is tremendous sign. Memories shall be the first one to be declared a HIT, if it can hold up well through the week.

Gross : 1.18 Crores
Verdict : Average Opening – Picking up well.

Thalaivaa made a tremendous initial in the state of 2.27 Crores in 3 days. The movie carries a below average opening in general which may pave way for the Malayalam releases to do better than expected. Chennai Express also made a decent opening of approx. 1.50 Crores. The film has already lost its fizz due to poor audience appreciation, but is expected to continue in theaters for another week atleast, due to the glitz and glamour.
