Ee Adutha Kaalathu Collects 1.68 Crores in 16 days

Ee Adutha Kaalathu starring Indrajith, Anoop Menon, Lena and Mythili, received rave reviews from the critics and the viewing public, for the freshness in its theme and its slick presentation. But in spite of the positive word of mouth, the film has struggled a bit in its second week, in which it has managed to collect about 75 lacs. The movie has been unexpectedly removed from some of its release centers, which would now seriously harm the possibility of the film being a declared a clean hit.

The wide number of new movie releases and the examination fever all around has turned the tide against this movie and now the film may find it difficult to recover its cost, which at one time seemed to be just a matter of time. The string of Flops in Mollywood continues, as Second Show still remains the only commercially successful movie of the year till now. But a good 3rd week shall amend that, as Ee Adutha Kaalathu really deserves to be commercially successful. The audience appreciation does not seem to be a problem for the film, but the number of theater removals do put forward a serious threat.

The 'less-than-impressive' performance of the new releases may give the movie a much needed lease of life, but even then, it will not be able to achieve the targeted result.

Ee Adutha Kaalathu released in 62 screens, and now plays only in 19 theaters after 16 days. It has completed  2480 shows in Kerala till now, and still gets about 50% capacity audience during the weekends. The total gross from the state is about 1.68 Crores, with a share of 81 lacs. A decent third week should enable the film to recover its costs, as the positive word of mouth almost guarantees that the film would fetch a good price for its satellite rights.
