Friday Matinee - Mammootty Vs Mammootty

Happy Vishu and Easter to all

Mollywood is witnessing  supreme battle of Mammootty Vs Mammootty for the top spot of Vishu season. The mega star is heading for back to back big hits through impressive start of his latest flick with director Ranjith’s ,Puthen Panam. The movie had mixed reviews initially but later on it turned in to above average. Mammootty’s performance is rated as treat to watch. The movie opened to great start at Kerala box office in around 120 screens with good occupancy. The Thursday holiday added additional punch to the start by rendering excellent evening and night shows of release day. It has grossed 1.83 Cr on the opening day which is very good in the trade sense. Ranjith – Megastar combo has every chance to record a ten plus crore in first week. If it can manage it then the battle between TGF and PP will be an interesting one.

The Great Father continues to dominate Kerala box office with steady collection. The failure of 1971 gave shot in arm for the TGF which went on to reap the benefit of the vacation crowd. The family by and large giving preference to this movie thus evening and shows are filling to above 80% even on week days. The solid support of the fans also becomes handy for the film. It is also registers the first film of Mega star to enter 20 Cr club and rapidly moving towards to 30 Cr club. With a massive release in GCC the movie likely to enter 50 Cr in its final run which this blogger has predicted before the release itslef. The Great Father has grossed 21.75 Cr in 13 days. Blockbuster

1971 Beyond Borders is an unexpected failure from Mohanlal- Major Ravi combo. It had average WOM but collapsed at the theater on the very next day. Normally Mohanlal films used to sail through initial weekend irrespective of the WOM but this one becomes an exception to that. A section of star’s own fans trolled the film on day one creating a bad impression among usual film goers. 1971 marks the end of the dream run Super Star having for last 7 month at Kerala. From a good opening it has landed to poor 6th day with minimal revenues expected in remaining run. Will incur huge loss to the makers. Collects around 5.40 Cr in six day. Average opening week and heading towards flop to disaster level.

Geogetten’s Pooram  still not over and is on track. Dileep proves that his connect with kids and family audience almost intact. Average to below average WOM but still holds on to the theater with an average collection which is real surprise. As this blogger mentioned in the last week Friday Matinee ‘’people always prefer comedy films in vacation season’’ the tag of comedy virtually helping at box office. Touched a decent 7.50 Cr in 12 days.

Take off  is the only movie which has good WOM. Stayed rock solid in front of flood of release of biggies. Heading towards Super Hit with good support from theaters.  Collects 13.15 Cr in three weeks with around 6700 shows.
