Friday Matinee- Angamaly to Mexico - Youthful Week

From this week till Vishu day , Mollywood  set for a big bang release one after another. All the big stars to the prominent directors have their movies scheduled but one simple question, where are theaters to accommodate all these movies when each and every star wants from hundred to hundred fifty screens on day one?

Youths just conquered screens of Kerala through two movies which got released today. Angamaly dairies directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery leads in good WOM but the Oru Mexican Aparatha due to its political shadow opened to a thunderous start in box office. Even though Tovino – Tom Emmatty movie has average WOM by the help of huge hype it is certain to beat 5 Cr total figure in three days thus placing it in a safe zone in three days itself. On other hand Angamaly treated as the great come back by Lijo Jose , is a bold attempt with 70 odd fresh faces. Reviews are in its favour but how far it can fetch the collection is another question mark.

Ezra the second blockbuster 2017 surges ahead in box office with handsome collection considering it is in the third week. In around nearly hundred screens in Kerala the movie enjoyed the extended weekend of the last week notching up around 3.40 Cr additions to its total. Thereafter in the week days as expected the movie slumped literally with minimum collection. The grand gross is around 26.45 Cr in three weeks with around 9,000 shows in Kerala. Worldwide, movie started its journey in GCC with certain restriction some of the country and has entered US and European market to reap the harvest.

Aby has done a decent business in Kerala. The movie has average to above average WOM with majority agreeing it as inspirational movie with excellent performance from Vineeth Sreenivasan. Even though it started well at box office the weekdays has put a speed breaker in its path of collection. The average occupancy has dipped to nearly thirty to forty percentage in the majority of the centres which will have adverse impact in getting further run. The film has managed around 4.30 Cr in the first week which is good opening considering the cost involved in the film.

Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol as predicted last week enters in to prestigious 50 Cr worldwide collection. This is a Hatrick 50 Cr for Super Star Mohanlal after Industrial Hit Pulimurugan and All time block buster Oppam. The movie is doing extremely well at GCC and UK market. Back home in Kerala the movie has grossed around 31 Cr in six week. Being a family genre movie this feat is outstanding one indeed.

Veeram  one more ‘rasam ‘ added to the ‘navarasam’ series of director Jayaraj. Huge budget with several technician from overseas associated with the film but the director could have used any one of the known figure of Mollywood for better performance at box office. The result in Kerala box office is poor opening even after getting mixed reviews. The week could not cross even 2 Cr.

Kerala Top 5 movies (03/03/2017)
  1. Ezra – Blockbuster
  2. Aby – Good opening
  3. Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol - Blockbuster
  4. Veeram – Poor Opening
  5. Fukri  - Flop
