Friday Matinee - Murugan still roars
Deepavali is the time Kerala box office is invaded grossly by other language films cutting Malayalam films screen size to minimum level. Today we have two each Tamil and Hindi films released in a wide manner. But the industry hit Pulimuragan and new gen Aanandam has bravely defeated any kind of invasion to their fold while others running films like Joppan and Kavi suffered heavily. Karthi’s Kaashmora and Dhanush’s Kodiopens to mixed reviews in Kerala
Top 5 movies as on 28/10/2016
1 Pulimurugan
There is no record remaining to overcome by the Pulimurugan except the maximum number shows in Kerala by a film which is presently with Drishyam. But the Murugan is just around 12,000 shows to break that too with reaching 14,000 shows in three weeks time itself with still holding 100 plus screens in its cross over to fourth week. Murugan is fever or wave? Trade pundits are confused to find a proper explanatory word to name it correctly. It has taken highest share a Malayalam a film could not even imagine from Kerala alone.
It was predicted and expected to fish out a maximum of 18 Cr share in Kerala in its final but the Mohanlal magic grabbed it those figure by the completion of second week itself. It is the highest grossing film of all the releasing station in three weeks while many more weeks still remains. Frankly when Drishyam passed huge 40 plus Crore never expected any film to reach there. But we were proved wrong by Premam and Moideen in the last year. Now we have first ever in the history of Malayalam film a film crossing an unbelievable 50 Crore gross in Kerala alone. This Vaishak- Mohanlal bumper has just done that in style by collecting approx 50.20 Cr in three weeks. Rest of India, the film has created huge wave even among non malayalees. It has collected around 7 Cr with major contribution from South India that too from Bengaluru .
2. Aanandam
It is golden period of Vineeth Sreenivasan! Whichever area he embark on , the success is guaranteed. With a fresh faces both in front of screen and behind who can a make a grand success like this apart from this young talented person?
This new Gen film has been well accepted by the targeted audience, the younger generation. Multiplexes are having good occupancy and only in small cities it is being trailed back foot. But the collection has been very good in the weekend and good in the weekdays when we compare the genre and budget it belongs. Grossed approx 3.60 Cr in a week. Good opening
3. Thoppil Joppan
Poor run in many centers as the collection dropped heavily. The weekend was above average but the weekdays were pathetic. Gross is now approx 12.25 Cr with revenue potentials in remaining run is at a low web. Hit
4. Oppam
One more film of Super Star Mohanlal enters 40 Cr club in Kerala with good run at lower centers. It has celebrated 50 days in around 50 screens even though it was with limited shows. Collects approx 40 Cr in Kerala alone in 50 days. Blockbuster
5. Kavi Udheshichathu
Good opinion but not good at box office. Feel sorry for the debutant directors and Asif Ali. Wrong timing of release. Collected around 4 Cr . Average earner at box office.
