Friday Matinee - White and Kismath
Mollywood is back to normal after a thundering shock from Kabali. Two films braced the screens today. Mega star Mammootty’s White and a romantic movie from a brand new team Kismath. White has been released in around 90 screens with mixed reports. The occupancy for the film is surpassingly below average. Lack of hype and continuous shifting of dates has given blow at the initials. Kismath released in around 40 plus screens and majority of them are small screens. The initial WOM also mixed but youths are getting attracted to the movie due to its sensational content. With low budget if it can trade average business for week the film can attain break even status.
Kerala Top movies as on 29/07/2016
1. Kabali
Super Star Rajini kanth need not have to prove the value of his stardom. Kabali reaffirms he is the king of box office. This Pa Ranjith movie ruled the Kerala screens for three day from Friday to Sunday eclipsing the Malayalam films. Created new record for first day initials and weekend grosser etc. But the WOM was negative in majority and it paid price for it from Monday onward with a steep reduction in occupancy and number of shows. The momentum has been lost means the craze for it has died. Wednesdays and Thursday clearly indicated that Maxlab is heading for a loss from theater run itself. Bought on huge right rate the Kerala collection 12.85 Cr gross with potentials to add roughly another 2 Cr to 2.50 Cr in remaining run including lower classes. But the box office performance for the first weekend was amazing in all meaning
2. Anuraga Karikkin Vellam
The only Malayalam which stood firmly and strongly against Kabali in Kerala. It excellently holds on to major screens with above average to good occupancy in Kerala without any major decrease in it shows. The super third weekend ensured the movie stay on top among the Mollwyood movies and to become Super hit by trade sense due to the relatively low budget. Grossed around 9.45 Cr in three weeks in around 7,000 shows. Brilliant!
3. Kasaba
Nothing much for the Megastar movie from box office. When hype is a blessing for first few days and it also has boomerang effect in the form of reverse spin which can take the wickets off from the box office. Hyped movies need good WOM to sustain but the mixed WOM can be counterproductive. Kasaba falls in the latter category hence after gigantic first week it at snail speed in screens.. Dull and out. Though it had around 50 plus screens in its third week the collection has taken beating with lower occupancy. Gross pass 13 Cr in three weeks with limited revenues expected in coming weeks.
