Friday Matinee- Lens clicked
This week belongs to two reputed directors of Mollywood. Laljose and Ashique Abu. The narrative style of these gifted directors may differ but the cause they undertook is path breaking by extending a helping hand in releasing so called two off beat cinemas. They are totally aware Lens and Ozhivu Divasthe Kali not going to financially viable distribution venture but the end result of this commendable effort is these movies gets more viewership. Agreeably there is reluctance on the part of theater owners in screening ‘the award category’ cinemas but the intervention of influential Laljose and Ashique positively changes the scenario. Lens has better screens and shows while ODK has limited shows. Let us hope Malayalees turn in large numbers for the increase of shows and screens across Kerala.
Kerala Top 3 movies as on 17/06/2016
1. Happy Wedding
This is film is heading towards one of the biggest profitable venture in 2016 exclusively from theatrical run. Profit making solely from theater is rarest of rare affair but this film is doing exceptionally well at box office from third week and in fourth week it has become the leader in collection. With around 70 screens to its credit the film capitalizing heavily due to the strong WOM of a comedy which no one wants to miss. Collected a mammoth 5 Cr with around 4,200 shows is fantastic achievement. All credit to Omar and crew for delivering a surprise hit at fag end of first half of 2016.
2. Conjuring 2
James Evans scares us again in the series. World highest grosser in the week and India’s leading Hollywood film so how can Kerala take a back seat? Opened to good frightening WOM and packed shows in the weekend in major cities. Collected a decent 1.35 Cr and still holds on for second week in several screens
3. Kammatipaadam
After steady three weeks the realistic film of Rajeev – Dulquer Salmaan slows down rapidly. But the film is super hit in terms of revenues and number of shows by collecting around 12 Cr in 8,400 shows in four weeks. Will add some more to the tally.
Normally in Monsoon time that too especially during Ramzan month the release of cinema used to be low key one. But this year our theaters are fully occupied by new releases. Some low budgeted Mollywood taking the advantage of the situation by releasing it. Moreover other language films having good time at Kerala screens and this trend to continue up to end of June. From July onward Mollywood biggies will bang the theaters .
