Friday Matinee - Kammatipaadam -Hit

Mollywood is stuck in huge traffic jam! A traffic jam created by series of release in consecutive weeks. Some lucky ones escape through safe channels while others fails to complete their onward journey. If it was four films released last week in Kerala, we have another three from Mollywood this week apart from other language films. Remember, we have some of the films of April still holding the screens. With limited screens it virtually means some of the films will have to bite the dust of flops irrespective of their WOM. Kerala can afford one Malayalam films in a week and 5 films maximum in a month. So that an average WOM film can survive! In a state with very few numbers of screens 150 odd films each were released in last two years. The result you know, 80% of the films were flops to disasters. In the world of fame and glamour not body bothered about the past but thinks always for treasure hunt by burning precious money to ashes.

Kerala Top 5 movies as on 27/05/2016

1. Kammatipaadam

Rajeeev Ravi has demolished one important misconception in the Mollywood; a film with realist approach to the issues won’t fare good at box office without commercial elements. This film was rated was good by the reviewers and slow paced flick as by the fans. Many in the industry were skeptical about the box office fate and was expecting a certain fall from Monday. All are proving wrong including this blogger. The film which had good opening at the weekend carry forward its good run briskly at box office and is hit at box office in the first week itself. The film has collected a handsome 7.40 Cr in first week in around hundred odd screens across Kerala. Dulquer Salmaan’s star power is the vital plus point in the box office success of the film. Treated as career best character of the junior megastar! More over the stellar performance of Vinayakan and Manikandan brings light to the hidden talents. Box office wise expecting one more good week. The first week is rated ; Good opening

2. Aadupuliyattam

Much needed break for evergreen star Jayaram. Put an end to the series of flops to him. When last time Kannan Thamarakulam joined along with Jayaram it was flop movie at box office. But this time they have managed to pull the success trigger at bulls’ eye. The script is the actual winner and people are thoroughly enjoying. Has become a family audience favourite very rare for horror movie genre. Mollywood has shown lack of interest in horror movies but this one can provide a stepping stone for some more people to courageously to undertake in future . Collects around 4.10 Cr in first week which is good at box office considering just around 70 plus screens it has while many of them are smaller in capacity.

3. Happy wedding

Premam is a craze for the younger generation. Idolizing those who connected with film is quite natural. Happy wedding has certain cast which replica of the all time block buster. Soubin ,  Siju, Sarafudhin in the lead role. As director himself quote as Omar fun, the fun is guaranteed is the WOM generated for the movie. Small film with tiny budget and with fun WOM it should have been break even from the screens. But a big company is having the distribution created mess out of it. Poor marketing and confused time slot coupled with lack of major city screens marred the film’s success. The film has collected a decent 90 lakhs even after all these draw backs in the marketing sector and holding some centers in the second week with limited shows. Expected to get reasonable satellite right which will place it to safer zone!

4. … 5

Number 4 and 5 missing for some time now . Film like Halelooya and X man  which released last week unable to pull over 50 lakhs in a week hence not included in the list. Hopefully we may have the complete box office Top 5 in the week before the Ramzan fast begins in the Kerala . Thereafter for a month even Top three will be an impossible box office package in a week.

This Friday films: School bus is having grand release in Kerala in around 90 screens and an average release for Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya. Both of the films are getting good initial reports.
