Friday Matinee - Super Week

An extra ordinary week for the Malayalam cinema and great start for  the New Year 2017 with both of the big films getting superb collection from the first week. A positive start was highly essential and necessary due to the unpleasant events transpired in the industry for a month long time. Plenty  of films has been scheduled till Vishu and production announcement huge budget films to low budget is indication that industry has rejuvenated from the hard time it went through. As far as the present box office collection concerned , you can’t better than this one :

 Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol has been the leader with outstanding performance at box office throughout Kerala. Super Star Mohanlal is in the habit of making big hits and it will be another blockbuster in to his credit in last four month. An unparallel feat for a Super Star. The movie had splendid weekend and in the weekdays it has given above 70% occupancy which is incredible considering it a family genre movie. The makers plan to release it wider has paid rich dividend even though it was done in view of the mass release of Singham 3 which has now been postponed to couple of weeks. The republic day holiday came in handy in big time for this movie with houseful shows in large numbers. The movie has garnered mammoth 14.25 Crore in the first week. The best opening week for a Malayalam movie after Industry hit Pulimurugan which had crossed 25 Cr in a week itself.

Jomonte Suvishengal  has survived average WOM effect in the box office by strong come back towards end of the week. Dulquer Salmaan’s powerful fan base helped in immensely up to the weekend but the weekdays initially showed some downward trend eventually returned to its good collection by Wednesday itself reaching it maximum on Republic day. If Dulquer was the reason for the huge initial the present collection can be also be attributed to one of the favourite name in family circle ‘Sathyan Anthikad’’.  Two family movies at a time may be a disadvantage but this week it has become an exception. Grossed around 10.55 Cr in 8 days.
