Friday Matinee - The week of Jayasurya
Versatile actor Jayasurya is known for his light hearted characters. The gifted actor has shown his potentials in several negative roles as well. But an action hero role is something which was missing for a quite some time. For his fans and actor himself today is one of the greatest day in his career. His much expected two films Pretham and IDI locks horns against each other at the box office. Initial report suggests Ranjith Shanker directed horror-comedy film Pretham is having good report while IDI is facing mixed reaction from the FDFS viewers. Apart from the Jayasurya movies Mollywood has one more notable release in the form of Marubhoomiyile Aana which as average report initially. This three film occupies nearly 230 screens across Kerala which is a formidable number. With an eye holiday on Independence day thus an extend weekend is going bring good dividend to all the films for the first four days.
Kerala Top 5 movies as on 12/08/2016
1 Ann Maria Kalipilaanu
Yet another small budgeted films clicks at the box office. From below average opening the film jumped in to good collection zone and there after remained solid even at week days. The attractive making and packaging is the main plus of the movie and director Mithun Manual deserves big kudos for a great come back at box office after a average entry at box office through Aadu. The family audience rated it as first preference and good WOM is big plus. The film has collected around 2.70 Cr in the first week which is absolutely great considering the stiff challenge it faced on day one with simultaneous release of the three films. In the second screens are added to kitty and will have another positive extended weekend to its credit. Big boost to somewhat event less career of actor Sunny wayne.
2. Vismayam
Super Star back Mohanlal in silver screen after a gap of the nine months but the fans were not over enjoyed as they have to see him in a dubbed movie with family oriented subject. WOM was good and appreciation for Mohanlal was flowing from all the corners. This positive note helped it for the first three days from Monday onward the film fell flat at box office inviting hold over almost all the screens. Dubbed films get an extra mileage in other territories largely due to the action or visual impact it provide. But in this film is concerned the director was not so popular among Keralites and the film lacked the much extra bone to attract the audience. The film collected around 3.12 Cr which is average with a thin further addition is expected in this week. Massive removals in a week itself! Not a good way for Mohanlal in breaking his silence at box office.
3. Guppy
If you go through reviews and response from the people watched, this film is rated top for the visual treat it presented. Unfortunately the film lags behind in collection mainly due to presence of other films. Tovino Thomas and young Chetan render superb performance. The perfect and appreciable debut by the director John paul George. Even though film likely to fail at box office this film will be arrayed in Top 10 good films of 2016. Grossed around 1.25 Cr in a week with little chance at remaining run.
4. Kismath
Totally unexpected result for wafer thin budget movie which would have gone unnoticed just like other 50 odd films of 2016. Crosses 2 Cr with the help of increase of screens across Kerala. Already in the profit zone.
5. Anuraga Karikkin Vellam Kismath
Hold on to major screens even after new releases. Still has decent occupancy during weekend and may find around 25 screens for a 50 days celebrations. Collection is at 11.10 Cr with around 9,000 shows. Super Hit
