Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 36 - The Wait for the Onam Biggies, Kunjananthan Drops
RANK # 1 – KUNJANANTHANTE KADA
Kunjananthante Kada remains the numero uno in BOV review for Week 36, despite suffering severe drop in collections. The movie is much appreciated and has earned rave reviews from the critics and the paying public alike, but how often have we seen the same not being reflected in the boxoffice performance of the film.! The 10 day gross figure seems to be at around 80% of its lifetime gross. Not much can be expected with the Onam Biggies coming in thick and fast. The venture may break even due to the shoe string budget, and give the makers what they want. But money-wise, Kunjananthan is a non-performer at the BO.
Gross : 1.75 Crores (10 Days)
Verdict : FLOP
RANK # 2 – MEMORIES
Memories becomes one of the more successful movies of the year, and if BO performance is taken as the sole crtieria, it can be labelled Prithviraj’s biggest hit since Indian Ruppee, and his highest grossing solo film. Kudos to Jeethu Joseph for marking his name in the list of genuine hit makers in Mollywood.
Gross : 7.56 Crores (31 Days)
Verdict : HIT
Verdict : HIT
RANK # 3 – KALIMANNU
Kalimannu struggles big time to maintain any sort of momentum going into the Onam weekend. The film screened in 25 theaters in its third week and shall be almost wiped out next week. The wide release and pre-release controversy helped Kalimannu reach a half-decent gross, else the boxoffice reception was much below average.
Gross : 2.14 Crores (17 Days)
Verdict : BELOW AVERAGE
Verdict : BELOW AVERAGE
RANK # 4 – PULLIPULIKALUM AATINKUTTIYUM
PPAK continued to slide in week 4, and had to surrender its Ramzan leader position to a surging Memories. Nevertheless, the film shall find its place in amongst the list of notable BO performers at the year end analysis, but never reached the initial expectations, falling short atleast a couple of crores.
Gross : 7.36 Crores (31 Days)
Verdict : HIT
Arikil Oral and Artist proved to be washouts, and the newcomer of the previous week Blackberry never managed to find its ground, thus proving to be a Disaster.
