The strike - What Public needs
Can it happen anywhere in the world or any form of business or industry THAT the stake holders themselves embarking on to kill their own industry? Mollywood is the shameful answer to this most heartbreaking strike for cinema lovers.
2016 is the most successful year in Mollywood long journey from pre independence era. Nearly 500 Cr businesses in 118 Malayalam films released in the year. Pulimurugan alone crossed 150 Cr business . Business wise the Malayalam films reach and spread exceeded tremendously and if you are business man you may plan for more attractive ideas to grow further. But we have warring theater owners and Producers and distributors keeping us busy outside from watching any new Mollywood for last two weeks. Who has erred and who has exceeded in defeating the other is not under the purview of interest to the common man. But his entertainment for the one of the best vacation is curtailed.
In the form of the strike the end result is up on the common man who has to suffer. No one bothered to ask what he wants. We are the one who pays 100 plus rupees and dumped suffocated in the poor quality theaters. They are AC theaters but the AC will be switched off once the films starts to roll in. We are the one who always doubted our ears when the so called DTS to Dolby’s produced nauseating sounds breaks. We are the one who lost many hundreds on movies that has questioned our patience and never asked for the repayment for harassing us the crap movies. Silently we are suffering. No government ever asked any opinion from the public. Public is always mute spectator but have they ever thought without public support how a movie can be successful or theater can be full? We are the one who made all the fans association and could spend lakhs for FDFS celebrations. The big stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal has no time to comment on this issue. But We the public have our own suggestions
The strike has spoiled crores of Producers to Theaters. Most awaited movies have been shelved giving huge disappointment for the fans and cinema lovers alike. Let the Producers and theater owners settle when they want. This is golden chance for the Govt to make things in order. Apply some standard for A class theaters. It should be A class in quality and performance. Mere release of new films is should not be criteria any more. Let there be good theaters where our money paid becomes worthy. Let the ticketing goes online in the digital era. Why still so many theaters are shying away from going online? To cheat the local authorities? If they don’t comply cancel their license.
Government can also do its part by providing Tax rebate for the movies to attract more Malayalam film lovers just like other south Indian states does. Let Malayalam film viewing becomes cheaper.
